Electric Car Idea
Here is a kernel of an idea I want to put out there. The idea is based on toy slot cars. Long highways can be installed with electrically charged tracks embedded in the road. Electric cars would drop an electrode that would use the electricity. Electric cars could go longer distances and even charge while they drive. As cars enter the highway ramp they would get tickets like on a toll road and pay as they exit.
There is also the possibility to drive on auto pilot on these highways. The car would use the track to steer. Distance could be maintained with sonar and speed control. Passing would still be possible by lifting the electric electrode and driving normally.

ELMER LANG
I feel like I have known Elmer Lang for years even though I have never met him in person. I hope you will take a few minutes to explore his web page. I am featuring one of my favorite Elmer Lang films.

UNSUNG HAN
At the open studio event this past weekend I met Professor Young Mok Chung. He is a Professor of Art History at Seoul National University and is doing research at the University of Oregon for a few months. I met with him this week and he introduced me to a very interesting painter, Unsung Han.

Sam Karp
Last week I met with Sam Karp. Initially I was hoping to get some pointers on how to start an idea I have to do artist interviews as podcasts for DIVA. We talked about a lot ideas including Blogs. I thought of blogs as merely an online journal. He helped me see how blogs are a really easy way to have new content on a web page. I have had the same content on my web page for years.
I also have the info I need to get the podcast project going.

On The Easel
This is a painting I have been working on since last week. You can see a couple others on the wall. I hope to paint walls in the future. My studio came with green walls that are not conducive to judging color.
We were at a the Moline cabin. Holly was talking about "The Chinese Diggins" It is a place where Chinese emigrants had some kind of mining operation on the Illinois River. Of course I had to go there. This painting is inspired by my dream of what it might be like. It turned out to be a cool and interesting place but its not in this picture.
I like the idea of a fantasy of expectation. Anyone who has followed their dreams knows that whether it lead to disappointment or success it rarely matches their initial ideas of what it would be like. There are elements of the terrain around the Moline cabin. An image based on myths, stories and dreams may not match a physical place but it might be a better way to describe a place. The stories and the place are interconnected.
Holly added more info about the Chinese Diggins in the comments.
